Grace Poe on United Nationalist Alliance

MANILA, Philippines – The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) also wants Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairman Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares in its senatorial slate.

In fact, her name now completes UNA’s line-up for the 2013 senatorial elections, together with that of re-electionist Francis “Chiz” Escudero. This was announced on Monday morning by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, whose son is included in the ticket.

Poe-Llamanzares should be an easy choice for UNA, since her father – the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. – was friends with UNA stalwart and former President Joseph Estrada.

Poe-Llamanzares said, however, she has yet to talk to President Benigno Aquino III, who recently announced that she is also part of the Liberal Party senatorial line-up.

She gave hints, however, that she could be weighing heavily the LP offer.

Aquino told Filipino reporters on Saturday night in Vladivostok, Russia that Poe-Llamanzares and former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. are joining the Liberal Party line-up.

In an interview with ANC, the MTRCB chief would not reveal yet her plans for 2013.

“I don’t want to make any final announcement without speaking to the President. It’s proper to wait first when that time happens,” she said.

She said she is grateful that her name was included, noting that many would want to join the administration’s line-up.

She also noted it is “heartwarming” that UNA also wants her.

“There are certain things that transcend political climate,” she said. She cited, for example, her family’s friendship with Estrada and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

“I welcome the support of UNA and I think they’ve expressed their support that I’m also currently with the administration. In that capacity, they also know I’m being considered [by the LP],” she said.

She said UNA is “giving me the prerogative that will best represent my plans, what would be best for the coming elections.”

She said her current post under the administration is restricting her from announcing whatever plan she has in mind.

Still, “I would like to talk to the President and see how I could best help,” she said.

Asked if both UNA and LP can include her in their respective lists, she only said: “It’s important that you have the support of as many people as you can.”
